Geometry
Introduction
Geometry derives from the words “geo” in greek which means earth & “metry” which mean measurement in greek.
What is geometry
Geometry is about properties & relationship of points, lines, surfaces, solids and higher dimensional analogs.
Why we study geometry
We study geometry to find the length, area & volume of the different plane and solid and plain figures present around us & know them better.
Plane geometry
plane geometry is flat. Most commonly-known as 2-dimensional or 2D
plane
Plane geometry
geometry covers
- points
- lines
- angles
- polygons
- circles
Points
A point is a precise location/position on a plane usually represented as a “.”
Remember: you have to name each point with letters
example…
Lines
A line is a strait, showing no-thickness & no curves. Made of 2 points. that can extend up to ∞ in length in both ways.
We represent a line like.
Ray
A ray is a type of line which has a starting point has no ending point.
and we represent a ray as:
line segment
A “line segment” is a type of line that has both a starting point and an ending point.
We represent a lie segment as:
