Local Governments
Introduction
The central government divided it work to state government because it was hard for the central government to handle to whole country but the state government figured out that even they were having a hard time managing the whole state, So we came up with local governments for the village level block level and district level so the state government can work on more important things
so in this post we will learn about the local governments and how they work.
Local governments
In local governments the people who are elected will take of small thing in the village like small pip leaks etc. so the citizens would not have to come all the way to the city.
types of Local governments
There are three types of local governments
Village level government- Panchayat
block level government-Taluka
District level- Zilla parishad…
Panchayat
In the Panchayat government there used to be five leaders for each village but now because of the 73 & 74 amendments of the constitution It brought a change to the Panchayat. There are some people under the single leader of the village i.e. the Sarpanch and the people under the sarpanch are called the ward members. i.e. ward members are kind of a leader for a part of the village (how many wards and ward members depends on the population of the village)
If you observe the above image you can see the word secretary what the secretary basically does is, He/she over sees the running of the village and check if the panchayat is working well or not. The secretary is appointed by the state government
Municipality
The municipality works for the welfare of people of a district. The municipal committee or corporation concentrates on public stuff like public sewers, public toilets, building roads trash, street lights etc.
but who is the leader of the municipal committee/corporation and who elects him? Since India is a democratic country we the people will elect the chairman/mayor. (chairman is a word for towns and mayor is a word in cities.)
