Food Chainsđź”—
Introduction
A food chain what is it? A chain made of food?
No! in this post we will learn all about food chains and how they work.
What is a food chain
A food chain is when consumed(eaten) energy is passed from one living being to the other by any form.
3 types of living things in the food chain
- Producers-plants
- consumers-animals, birds, Humans, some insects
- decomposers- microbes, worms, some small insects.
Producers
Producers make food for them selves. like plants.
Consumers
Eat what the producers make. Like humans, other animals, birds etc. If a deer eats a plant and the deer again is eaten by a lion then still the nutrients of the plants are going into the lions body, but indirectly.
Decomposers
Eats the leftover and decompose them in to the soil they eat other animal waste or dried out leaves etc.
The Complete food chain
First the plant makes it own food then which is eaten by the Herbivores(Vegetarian animals) then the animals are eaten by the carnivores(non-veg eaters) then when something is left over or the carnivore is dead then the decomposers decompose the things that can be decomposed and give the nutrients back to the plant and it goes all over again. and at the top there are the humans who eat plants directly and indirectly
Here in the above picture there are 4 terms that Explain how the energy is passed
Primary consumer-direct animal who eats the plant.
Secondary consumer-a carnivore who eats the Primary consumer.
Tertiary Consumer- the animal who eats the secondary consumer.
Apex Predator- is an animal who eats the tertiary consumer
